Hi! I am really anxious and need som advice / confirmation. Me and my boyfriend had sex 2 days ago and with no protection. He did not finish in me, but i am scared of pre-cum. He pulled out right as soon as he felt like finishing. Since it was my first time, I was bleeding right after intercourse and i started spotting for 2 days. I am also supposed to get my period in a day. Since i am in my luteal phase, could i get pregnant? I’ve researched and found out that you can’t get pregnant outside of the ovulation phase. please help!!

Hi there!

Putting together everything I said to you in text (and reflecting on it a little more):

If you're correct about what stage of your cycle you're actually in, pregnancy would indeed be less likely right now compared to other times - however unlikely isn't impossible and it also doesn't sound like you're super confident about whether this spotting is part of an early period or not. It is possible to make mistakes when charting and it is possible for your cycle to just behave differently than you expect for any given month. So if you're worrying about getting pregnant (which is always a risk with direct genital contact) your two options are to cross your fingers until you can take a pregnancy test, or to seek out emergency contraception (quickly, as the sooner you get it, the better it works).

I'd recommend giving this a read: When can you get pregnant?

And of course this, which I linked to in text:

Birth Control Bingo: Emergency Contraception

What are you thinking? Will you need help getting hold of emergency contraception if that's what you decide?

Would it still be effective if i do, and when should i get the pregnancy test since it happened 2 days ago.

Levonorgestrel (Levonelle) could be taken within 3 days of your risk.

Ulipristal acetate (ellaOne) could be taken within 5 days.

You're in the window for both of those.

To know exactly what your options are you could call up or go to your pharmacy to ask what's available.

You'd have to read the instructions on a pregnancy test for yourself but I think it is usual that they recommend waiting ~14 days before you take the test.

OPill is not emergency contraception, you'll want to ask for emergency contraception if that's what you're looking for.
