HPV vaccine and sexual activity
Hi, I'm 21, I'm about to get my first shot of my HPV vaccine. I've had sex in my life with only one person, he is my boyfriend of 3 years, we only had protected sex so far. None of us are comfortable with unprotected. Is it safe for me to engage in a sexual activity with him after the first shot? Maybe not immediately, but after a few days?
Also, I grew up in a conservative family, no one knows that I am not a virgin. Our family knows each other, and it might not be a good idea to let them know, because my Mother would be there with me. There hasn't been any problems/abnormalities with my body, is telling the doctor about my sex life a must? I need all the advice/input I can get, what's the best I can do in this situation. I really want to get this vaccine and be protected, I've been saving up for the vaccine (it's pretty expensive here in my country).

Re: HPV vaccine and sexual activity
Hi there and welcome to the boards. I am so glad that you are engaging in safe sex and feel comfortable enough here to ask questions! I just want to note that this should not be treated as medical advice, but I am happy to share what I know.
I am not sure if the vaccine varies by country, but here in the states it is a three dose series, meaning you will get three shots over a 6 month period. If you want to have sex with your partner after getting just the first shot, I would advise you to play it safe and use a barrier method, like a condom. It sounds like that is the type of sex, protected that is, that you and your boyfriend are comfortable having anyhow.
I always think it is best to be as open as possible with doctors about sexual activity. A good doctor will ask you guiding questions to get the information required, and should not ask anything more invasive than that.
Best of luck and thanks for taking your sexual health seriously!!

Thank you!! I forgot to say, that I apologize if my query is too personal that it might make you feel uncomfortable. I didn’t have anyone else to go to, so, Scarleteen is kind of my savior. Thank you for your answer, I’m still doing my own little research about this matter, still looking for an actual medical advice. BUT! Your answer helps so much, it lifted this heavy, uncomfortable feeling from my chest.
Thank you!
Thank you!
