Scared of breast cancer

Unread post by Max3_3 »

Hello! I'm 18, I apologize for my English in advance since it's not my first language. I'm really Hypochondriac, so maybe I'm overthinking this but I want to ask abt it. I have a bump on my breast, it's really red too and it is a bit painful if I Push on it. I don't know if it's a lump, since it's red on the outside..?? I'm not sure how a lump should be. I got my breasts checked the 21 of march, and the doctors told me I was fine but I didn't have this at the time, so I'm not sure if it's really nothing or I should be worried abt cancer. Thanks for the reply in advance

No worries about your English, Max. Nessuna scusa! It's on us that we can only offer services primarily in English, not you!

Cancer at your age would be very unusual, and lumps from cancer usually aren't painful. However, since you're worried about it, it hurts, and you also aren't sure what it is, if you can get in and have it looked at, I don't see any reason you shouldn't.

Thank you for the reply! I know it's probably not cancer but I can't help but worry:( my mom said it's probably irritated or something, and I can't get an appointment with a doctor any time soon since I just got one done some weeks ago, and my mom probably wouldn't see the reason to go see it again so soon

Do you need your Mom to agree with you going? You're an adult, so you should be able to access care on your own. Even if you can't be seen soon, maybe just make the appointment for as soon as it can be made?

I'll try, I have to go to a dermatologist soon anyways so maybe I can ask them if it's just irritated or I should get it looked at. I just usually let my mom handle my appointments for now because I'm way too anxious to ask and she's the one who pays for them since I'm still in school:( I just can't help but worry that it's something serious. Thank you for the reply

I think a dermatologist can absolutely make a good call on this for you. They will absolutely be able to tell you if it's just a skin or tissue irritation or something more serious.

It does sound, though, like it might be time for you to start trying to transition to managing your healthcare on your own. I get that it can be intimidating, but you'll need to get there soon enough, and it sounds like this might be keeping you from care you want, so I'd suggest starting to make some steps in that direction. <3
