Trying to Wrap my Head around Fantasy

Unread post by Ginger!! »

Hello Scarleteen,
I often see people discuss the difference between fantasy & reality when it comes to some of their sexual interests. For some reason it’s so difficult for me to wrap my head around!!
Maybe because the things I fantasize about are things that I would want as a reality also?
Are you guys able to give examples of when the two are totally separated for some? Or even a simple explanation of how this sort of “mindset” works? I’m just trying to understand better.
Thank you.
We tend to think of the erotic as an easy, tantalizing sexual arousal. I speak of the erotic as the deepest life force, a force which moves us toward living in a fundamental way.

Hi Ginger,

When it comes to sexual fantasies, sometimes they can be different from what we actually want in real life when we have sex with other people. This is because the sexual fantasy is either impossible to act on in real life due to the limits of our bodies, or doing so can cause harm to ourselves and others. For example, someone can have fantasies of being choked, but they don't want it done to themself in real life in fear of asphyxiation (loss of air supply to the body). Another example would be someone who fantasizes sex with supernatural creatures, which would be impossible to do outside of their fantasies.

Do these make sense for you? We also have articles that go in-depth about this if you'd like to read them ad well.

Yes, that makes sense! Thank you.
I would still love to read up about those articles though. Do you have a link or specific key words I could use?

Hi, yes! Here are two great examples of what you were talking about: I like fantasizing about it: would I like it for real?
I’m having sex fantasies about my crush
