Spermicide left in the cold?

Unread post by jellybeanqueen »

Hi! I use VCF spermicide (in film form not the gel) and I ordered it on Amazon to my house. It was unexpectedly cold and it sat out on my porch for a few hours while I was at work. Is it still effective and is there a way I could know?

It is a backup method to condoms, which I know can't be exposed to extreme temperatures, but I always take care to keep condoms at room temperature and in the dark. (I buy condoms from the drugstore but I couldn't find VCF in stock near me.)

Hi there, jellybeanqueen. I can answer this for you.

Alas, VCF and other spermicides also are not supposed to be exposed to extreme hot or cold, like condoms. Unfortunately, there is no way to find out with something like this if it's effective or not than by using it and seeing if it fails or not, which is obviously not something you'll want to risk. Of course, condoms used properly make it so VCF doesn't really have anything to do in the first place, except offer peace of mind, but it sounds like that's important to you, so were it me, I'd (sorry!) be tossing it and going to a pharmacy myself to get some that I could assure was kept at the right temperature.
